CMDB Maturity Self-Assessment

The self‑guided assessment is designed to help organizations evaluate the maturity, governance, and operational reliability of their Configuration Management Database (CMDB). It provides structured scoring across five critical domains aligned to the CMDB Catalyst™ Framework.

Intended Audience:

    • CMDB Owners
    • ITSM Leaders
    • Enterprise / Platform Architects
    • IT Operations & Service Management Leaders

The assessment is designed to provide key individuals with the opportunity to objectively examine how their CMDB is structured, governed, automated, and adopted across the enterprise. It encourages cross-functional reflection from process owners, platform architects, service owners, and operational leaders to ensure scoring reflects real operational behavior—not just documented intent.

Participants are guided through a series of weighted questions that evaluate:

      • Foundational Controls – Core CI definition, lifecycle management, data ownership, and class governance
      • Strategy & Governance – Executive sponsorship, roadmap clarity, policy enforcement, and KPI tracking
      • Structural Alignment (CSDM) – Service hierarchy integrity, ownership rationalization, and relationship modeling
      • Automation & Federation – Discovery coverage, source-of-truth modeling, reconciliation logic, and integration maturity
      • Intelligence & Adoption – Incident enrichment, change impact analysis, reporting confidence, and business trust

Each response contributes to a calculated CMDB Confidence Index™, translating qualitative input into a quantitative maturity score. This index highlights strengths, surfaces hidden risk areas, and identifies specific improvement priorities.

Upon completion, organizations gain:

      • A visual maturity profile across all five domains
      • A consolidated confidence score indicating overall CMDB reliability
      • Targeted recommendations aligned to next-stage maturity progression
Insight into whether their CMDB functions as a trusted source of truth—or merely a data repository

The outcome is not simply a scorecard, but a strategic conversation starter. It equips leadership with clarity on where investment, governance refinement, or automation expansion will deliver the highest return in operational stability and service transparency.
